OVERLAPPING DOMAINS

Aspects of TNWK’s collaborative practice run up against the problem of what we call ‘mouse control’; difficulties resulting from our two presences being reduced to one input signal by standard computer interfaces. However many ‘mice’ are attached, only one input is registered at any one time. We are currently stuck with a paradigm based on assumptions of the mono-authorial voice, that frustrates our desire to work simultaneously and conversationally within digital space-time. Initially created as part of a live performance paper for the Interactive Media Forum at Miami University, Oxford Ohio in October 2004, this book toy presents interlocking acrostic texts, which spell out the phrase ‘overlapping domains’. This phrase strikes us as being emblematic of one critical issue for full collaboration in digital space-time frames.
